Wheat Grinding class

Thanks to Tammy MacKay for all her preparation and presentation on the basics of wheat grinding!
Cheryl Robinson shared a great spiritual thought referencing scripture: D&C 42:42.
"42 Thou shalt not be idle; for he that is idle shall not eat the bread nor wear the garments of the laborer. "
Cheryl Robinson shared a great spiritual thought referencing scripture: D&C 42:42.
"42 Thou shalt not be idle; for he that is idle shall not eat the bread nor wear the garments of the laborer. "
It was so interesting how this scripture fit our purpose! If you have a chance to read it, think upon those things that we labor to do and how we can continue to share with those around us. Also, ponder upon our own self reliance and what it means to take upon a garment of a laborer.
thanks Cheryl, you were inspired!
Tammy has information regarding purchasing grinders and storage containers. if you would like a copy, please leave a comment and we will have some on Sunday to pass around. Or if you want to look on your own you can google wheat grinders, and for storage search for gamma lids and buckets.
The church website has information on the quantity, purchase, and storage of the items for food storage. Also, Utah State has this website that gives wonderful detail. Specifically for Wheat, click here - Wheat.
In addition, Andrea Corbridge was nice enough to share her delicious and beautiful bread recipe. As we remember from our Sunday lesson, sometimes it takes time to perfect bread making, so keep practicing!
Suzanne’s Whole Wheat Bread
4 Very Large Loaves
5 cups Hot Water 113*
1/3 cup Canola Oil
2/3 cup honey
2 ½ tsp. salt
¾ cup dry milk powder Pre-mix & keep in freezer
1/3 cup lecithin powder – buy online
2/3 cup gluten – buy at Winco—store in freezer
8 cups red wheat ground on fine
Mix these ingredients together and let sit for at least 15 minutes. Let the yeast sit while the dough is resting.
½ cup 109* water for yeast
1 ½ Tbsp Yeast – let sit—should bubble up and get frothy
3 cups Bread flour
Mix in the rest of the ingredients and knead. Place in “Pammed” tub, cover with a flour sack and let rise until double—about 1 hour.
Turn dough onto counter sprayed with Pam –pretty side down. Cut dough into 4ths and weigh. Should be close to 14 grams.
Form loaves into round loaves. Always keep the pretty side down until you form the loaves. After the loaves are the shape you want, flip and let them sit for 5 minutes. Re-tuck to make it look perfect and place in “Pammed” loaf pans.
Let rise until double, slit the top and immediately bake at 350* for 23 minutes.
Turn loaves out onto cooling rack as soon as you take them out of the oven and wipe down the top and sides with Country Crock Butter Spread.
Let the loaves cool for about 3 hours and put in large bread bags—buy on line, and secure the bags. Wait for the bread to cool completely before you slice it. It smashes down a bit. An electric carving knife works really good.

First Sunday Message

On Sunday we talked about the new theme for the year "Strengthening our families and our marriages". We are going to focus on a different goal each month that plays a part in helping to accomplish strengthening our families and marriages.
I passed out an anonymous survey a few weeks ago. 36 sisters took the survey. The survey asked how often you 1. read scriptures as a family, 2. Family prayers, 3. Family Home Evening, 4. Go on dates with your spouse and 5. Church attendance. We went over those results on Sunday.
If you weren't in class and are interested in all the results let me know and I can email them to you.
Out of 36 families only 6 families (16%) read their scriptures everyday. Way to go you 6 families!
Our goal this month is to do better with our scripture study as a family. We want everyone to aim high and try to get this a part of your every day routine with your families. Create lasting habits this year. Each individual family will set their own goal with scripture study. We will have incentives with each of our goals. If you accomplished your goal for the week, then you put your name in the envelope in the binders. At the end of February we will draw out a name and have a prize for you! So if you accomplish your goal each week you could have your name in the drawing 3 times this month.
We split up into groups of 4 sisters and discussed our successes and failures in establishing scripture study in our homes. We then had each group share. The conclusion was to make it a habit and part of your everyday routine. It then becomes easier once established as "routine". IDEAS Shared: Some homes wake up really early to read, others read before bed. Some start out with a prayer and a song. One family gives treats to those that are on time to scripture study to make it "fun". One family holds up pictures from the gospel art kit and read about those stories. You need to find out which works for your family!
As teachers our goals should be to 1. teach key doctrine 2. invite learners to do the work God has for them, and 3. promise that blessings will surely come. (Teaching helps save Lives, Osguthorpe)
Their is much doctrine about scripture study. Nephi often talks about the joy and blessings he received from the scripture and this talk by Sister Beck, "My Soul Delighteth in the Scriptures" has many ideas and tips on helping it become a habit.
I passed around bookmarks that contain promises and blessing that come from reading the scriptures. If you did not get one we will get you one on Sunday.
Questions about the goal this month? Email me or leave a comment on the blog. Thanks!
Jen

Humanitarian Project - Clarification
Sisters,
wanted to clarify on the questions regarding this project.
The First Aid items are not a "kit" but rather individual items that can be donated.
The items listed for the Hygiene Kits are a "kit" and should be donated in a complete kit. Or a monetary donation of $5 will allow the Relief Society to purchase these items in your behalf.
Our goal is 100 Hygiene Kits or 1 per family.
We look forward to having families attend this activity and serve those who are without these items.
thank you so much for your generosity and support of this effort as we work in the service of our fellow brother and sisters.
